Bruges, Venezia Nordului | Bruges, the Venice of the North

Probabil bijuteria acestei călătorii, Bruges, al cărui centru se află în patrimoniul UNESCO, ne-a impresionat prin eleganța și simplitatea sa. Relativ micuț și nu foarte aglomerat, Venezia Nordului se remarcă prin clădirile medievale specifice zonei, canalele sale navigabile, waffele delicioase și atmosfera de oraș vechi care parcă a rămas neschimbat în timp. 

După cum vedeți și în titlu, Bruges mai este cunoscut și pentru porecla sa de Venezia Nordului, pe care o împarte cu Amsterdam și Sankt Petersburg. După umila mea părere, Brugge se apropie mai mult prin felul său de a fi de Venezia decât orașul olandez. 

Aflat în regiunea Flandra și fiind recunoscut ca oraș al artiștilor medievali din toată zona Țărilor de Jos, micul Bruges este atracția principală a Belgiei la o oră de mers cu trenul din Bruxelles. Principalele activități pentru care puteți opta sunt plimbările cu barca sau pe jos, să urcați în turnul Belfort pentru o priveliște încântătoare asupra orașului, să vizitați Muzeul Groeninge pentru a vă delecta cu picturile flamande, să vizitați Biserica Notre Dame sau chiar Vechiul Spital Sf Ioan (astăzi muzeu de artă).

Oricum ați alege să vă petreceți timpul în Brugge, nu veți putea rezista mult fără să îl îndrăgiți. Cel puțin nouă ne este drag de el, mai ales că am prins și o vreme excepțională, cu soare, ceva ce nu se întâlnește prea des în această zonă a Europei.

[EN] Bruges impressed us with its elegance and simplicity and I actually consider it to be the “jewel” of my trip. Being relatively small and not very crowded, the UNESCO World Heritage Site stands out through the medieval buildings that are specific to this area, its navigable canals, delicious waffles and the vibe that seems completely unchanged for centuries. 

As you can see in the title, Bruges is also known for its nickname of the Venice of the North along with Amsterdam and St. Petersburg. In my opinion, Bruges is closer to the concept of Venice than the Dutch city as I visited them all except for St Petersburg.

Located in the Flanders region and being recognized as the city of medieval Flemish artists, the little city of Bruges is the main attraction of Belgium (one hour train ride from Brussels). The main activities you can opt for are going for a walk by boat or by feet, climbing the Belfort Tower for a lovely view of the city, visiting the Groeninge Museum to enjoy Flemish paintings, visiting the Church of Our Lady or even the Old St. John's Hospital (an art museum nowadays).

However you’d choose to spend your time in Brugge, you won’t be able to not fall in love with this city. At least we enjoyed it so much as the weather was exceptional. The sun is not very common in this area of ​​Europe.

Pentru început, am luat trenul din Bruxelles Centraal, existând rută directă până la Bruges. Noi am luat trenul care avea capătul în Blankenberge despre care vă voi povesti mai târziu. Vă puteți lua biletele chiar din gară, acolo aflându-se multe case de bilete automatizate și ușor de folosit. Noi am plătit 23 de euro dus-întors pe toată ziua.

[EN] At first, we took the train from Brussels Centraal to Bruges (there’s a direct route that takes one hour long and ends in Blankenberge which I'll tell you about a little bit later). You can buy your tickets right from the train station as there are many easy-to-use ticket offices. We paid 23 euro round trip for the whole day.

Imediat ce am coborât din tren, am mai avut de mers aproximativ 20 de minute de mers pe jos până în centrul orașului, astfel încât am apucat să admirăm clădirile încă de la primul pas. Ne-am oprit să mâncăm waffe la Otto Waffle Atelier (cele mai bune din toate câte am încercat). Apoi, prima oprire a fost plimbarea cu barca pentru care am plătit 12 euro/persoană.

[EN] As soon as we got off the train, we had to walk about 20 minutes by feet to the city center and we got to admire the surroundings. We ate some waffles at Otto Waffle Atelier (the best of them all). Then, the first stop was the boat ride that cost us 12 euro/person.

Muzeul Groeninge ne-a surprins în mod plăcut cu picturi medievale și moderne flamande, dintre care și unele ale lui Jan van Eyck. Sunt diferite de celelalte opere europene ale vremii, iar muzeul este potrivit ca mărime (nici prea mare, dar nici prea mic). Prețul pentru un bilet de student este de 12 euro, iar cel de adult este de 14 euro.

[EN] The Groeninge Museum surprised us with some incredible medieval and modern Flemish paintings, including some of Jan van Eyck’s work. They are different from other European compositions of the time and the museum is great in size (neither too big, nor too small). The price for a student ticket is 12 euro and the adult ticket costs 14 euro.

O plimbare prin Piața Burg și un prânz binemeritat ne-a ajutat să ne recăpătăm puterile pentru a urca în Belfort care nu a fost deloc ușor de parcurs. Am admirat frumoasa clădire a primăriei, clădirile adiacente acesteia, magazinele de suveniruri și nu numai. Am poposit la fiecare pod și ne-am retras de soarele care ardea deja cu putere peste Bruges. Bineînțeles, nu am ratat nicio ocazie să imortalizăm splendidele peisaje ale orașului belgian. Biletul pentru Belfry-Belfort este de 12 euro pentru studenți și de 14 euro pentru adulți.

[EN] A walk through Burg Square and a well-deserved lunch helped us regain our strength to climb Belfort which was not easy at all. We admired the beautiful city hall building and the ones next to it, the souvenir shops and much more. We stopped at each bridge and hid from the sun that was already burning strongly over Bruges. Of course, we couldn’t miss any opportunity to take pictures of the splendid landscapes. The ticket for Belfry-Belfort is 12 euro for students and 14 euros for adults.

Biserica Notre Dame este ultimul obiectiv vizitat din Bruges. Cu toate că nu am găsit-o la fel de interesantă ca celelalte atracții ale orașului, este până la urmă o oază de liniște și de răcoare. Din păcate, vizita este cu plată, mai exact 6 euro pentru studenți și 7 euro pentru adulți.

[EN] The Church of our Lady was the last thing we visited in Bruges. Although I didn’t find it as interesting as the other tourist attractions of the city, it’s still very peaceful and quiet. Unfortunately, one must pay for the visit. It costs 6 euro for students and 7 euro for adults.

Surpriza acestui articol este că nu se termină aici. Ne-am propus să dăm o fugă până la Marea Nordului și ne-a ieșit pentru că Blankenberge nu este numai la o stație distanță de Bruges, dar este și capătul liniei de tren. Blankenberge este un orășel cu ieșire la mare, astfel încât am putut să o admirăm și noi. Localitatea în sine era destul de pustie (nu era sezonul) așa că ne-am bucurat de o liniște pe care nu am mai resimțit-o în niciun alt loc din excursie (poate doar la Waterloo). Dacă vă doriți și voi să ajungeți aici, este mai mult decât accesibil cu trenul. Aveți șansa să vedeți refluxul Mării Nordului care face ca plaja să fie imensă.

[EN] This blog post doesn’t end here. We headed to the North Sea because Blankenberge is not only one train station away from Bruges, but it is also the end of the train line. Blankenberge is a small town next to the sea so we could admire it too. The town itself was quite empty as it wasn’t the proper season. We enjoyed the silence as much as we did at Waterloo during the whole trip. If you want to get there too, it’s accessible by train. You have the chance to see the low tide of the North Sea which makes the beach appear huge.
